Building Better Men for a Better Alpha Sigma Phi

Better Man Weekend is an innovative program occurring in January that is designed for developing leadership skills for Presidents, Sergeant-at-Arms and two other H-officers of the chapter/provisional chapter's choice. Attendance is mandatory from four officers of the chapter or provisional chapter; no substitutions or proxies are permitted. Here is a breakdown of this year's event:

Better Man Weekend - Cardinal  |  January 19-21, 2018
The President is required to attend this weekend. The chapter/provisional chapter must send one other officer and can choose between the Membership Education Director, Recruitment Director, Scholarship Director or Treasurer.

Better Man Weekend - Stone  |  January 26-28, 2018
The Sergeant-At-Arms is required to attend this weekend. The chapter/provisional chapter must send one other officer (a different officer from Cardinal) and can choose between the Treasurer, Recruitment Director, Membership Education Director or Scholarship Director.

The program is about learning how to be the best at your position and building brotherhood. We aim to provide relevant and engaging sessions. Each officer will participate in a track designed specifically for the office they hold. This is not your traditional lecture session; most sessions are interactive and discussion based allowing participants to be involved and engaged. Brotherhood events are scheduled in the evening for you to meet and learn from members of other chapters and provisional chapters as well as build brotherhood.

Alpha Sigma Phi is one of the few international fraternities that provides a weekend-long opportunity to train officers. Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity is the only international fraternity to offer this type of program with no registration cost and minimal transportation costs (if registered by the deadline).

Better Man Weekend provides undergraduate officers the opportunity to develop position-based skills they can use when they return to their campuses to create positive change for their chapters/provisional chapters and fraternity and sorority communities. Better Man Weekend provides officers the skills and training necessary for them to not only successfully meet the duties of their position but to excel beyond them.

"Better Man Weekend helped shape my leadership skills in more ways than I could have ever imagined. Meeting brothers from across the country and being able to swap ideas outside of my own chapter and build a support group out of the brothers I met made me proud to be an Alpha Sig." - John Govan, Grand Valley '12

"Went to Better Man Weekend with an open mind and excited to learn things from other chapters. I was able to take back so many great ideas back to my chapter that helped us in the upcoming semester. " - Jonathan Magana, Fresno State '11

"Better Man Weekend definitely kickstarted my term as vice president. I was able to network with countless undergraduate and alumni brothers who gave me advice and guidance that helped better my chapter. Better Man Weekend is definitely one of my top 5 experiences as an Alpha Sig. It was the first time I got to see how widespread our brotherhood really is and the impact we are ready to make on the world." - Gustavo Lopez, South Florida '13
