History of Endowment
The Cummings Family has established this Endowment as a memorial in the name of their late son, Connor Cummings, Gamma '15, as a benefit to undergraduates of the Gamma Chapter at the University of Massachusetts.
Connor Cummings passed away on December 30, 2015. He was doing what he loved; taking photographs to share with the world. He was 20 years young and he left his family, friends and brothers broken hearted, but grateful for having had him bless our lives. Connor's Spirit will live on forever in our hearts, minds and the images he captured.
Connor graduated from Morris Knoll High School in 2014. He was excited for what the future held and always had a contagious smile on his face. Over the past few years, he had developed a love for photography. In the Fall of 2014, he headed off to UMass Amherst, where he had been studying psychology. He pledged Alpha Sigma Phi, was initiated in April 2015 and later was elected Recruitment Director. Connor made friends quickly. He was kind, caring and always able and willing to help everyone. He possessed an adventurous, fun-loving and positive spirit, which will never leave us. This Memorial Fund will help to keep Connor with us and always remember to "capture" life.
"Life is like a camera. Focus on what's important. Capture the good times. Develop from the negatives. Take another shot."
The Alpha Sigma Phi Foundation reviews each endowment fund annually and makes available a percentage of the fair market value of the Chapter Fund's assets to be distributed during the subsequent year, which is presently five percent (5%) of the rolling five-year average of the market value of the endowment at the end of the previous fiscal year.
Distributions will be used only for purposes consistent with the Foundation's tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code as determined by the Foundation.
Selection of recipients will be determined by the Fraternity Headquarters staff or a Scholarship Committee appointed by the Fraternity President & CEO.
The Endowment's distributions shall be utilized exclusively for the following purposes:
To provide funds for academic and/or needs based scholarships (partial or full) for male students who are currently enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at the University of Massachusetts. Preferential consideration will be given to members of the Gamma Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi.
