FAQs for the President's Academy
As the top leader in the chapter, it is the President’s responsibility to attend the President’s Academy in its entirety. Presidents are expected to attend the entire program to earn credit on the Annual Report. Presidents must attend if their chapter was not selected to attend Better Man Weekend.
WHEN IS THE PRESIDENT’S ACADEMY?
The President's Academy takes place on January 20 - 22, 2017.
WHO FROM MY CHAPTER IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND?
It is a requirement that chapter Presidents are in attendance if their chapter wasn’t selected to attend Better Man Weekend. No substitutions, proxies, or committee members are permitted.
HOW DOES MY CHAPTER KNOW IF WE ARE NOT SELECTED TO ATTEND BETTER MAN WEEKEND?
Unlike in past years, Alpha Sigma Phi is selecting chapters to attend Better Man Weekend based on the age of the chapter. Selected chapters can be found here. If a chapter is not selected, they must send their President to the President’s Academy. No substitutions,proxies, or committee members are permitted.
WHAT IF MY ATTENDANCE AT THE PRESIDENT’S ACADEMY INTERFERES WITH CLASS/WORK?
If a president is going to miss class or work as a result of the President’s Academy, there is a letter in the back of the Attendee Guide that can be provided to an instructor/supervisor. It is highly recommended that officers notify all instructors/supervisors as soon as possible so they have plenty of advanced notification. Those who wait until the week or day before tend to find unsympathetic instructors and supervisors, causing logistical challenges for the President and the chapter. If these challenges do arise because of procrastination, you are still required to attend the program.

DOES THE FRATERNITY OFFER FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR TRAVEL?
Alpha Sigma Phi is able to provide chapters flying to St. Louis for the President’s Academy a $200 travel grant to subsidize travel costs; we are happy to provide this travel grant thanks to the generous support from alumni donors. This grant only applies to groups outside of a 415-mile radius from the St. Louis Airport Marriott. Fraternity Staff will book your flight arrangements based on preferences indicated on registration, and any remaining balance will be placed on your chapter's statement.
ARE MY MEALS PROVIDED?
The President’s Academy will provide attendees with the following meals: Friday dinner and late evening snack; all three meals on Saturday plus a late evening snack; and breakfast on Sunday. If an attendee needs additional snacks or beverages, he is encouraged to bring those with him or to bring some spending money. Attendees with dietary needs should communicate those needs on their registration form. Every effort will be made to accommodate dietary needs communicated in advance.
WHAT IS THE FRATERNITY'S CANCELLATION POLICY FOR PRESIDENT'S ACADEMY?
Chapters not attending Better Man Weekend are required to send their President to the President’s Academy. If the President can no longer attend the program, they can no longer serve in their position and must be replaced. Proxies/substitutes/committee members are not permitted to attend in place of the President.
The registration deadline is December 6, 2016 at 5 p.m. PST. Replacements (a newly elected President and not a proxy/substitute/committee member) can be made through the January 6, 2017. After the registration deadline, only cancellations are accepted. In the event the president needs to cancel, he must notify Fraternity Staff via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Phone calls are not an accepted form of cancellation.
Presidents who cancel after January 6, 2017, do not show up to the program, or are asked to leave the program for violating the expectations agreement, will be billed for the true cost of attending the program ($500) as well as any travel funds paid on their behalf by the Fraternity. Further, Presidents who do not serve in their position for the entire term (until at least November 2017) will be billed the true cost of attending the program ($500) as well as any travel funds paid on their half by the Fraternity. Members will be individually responsible for those costs and could be sent to collections for failure to pay.
