The Stan Thurston Lifetime Achievement award goes to an alumnus who has made a lifetime commitment to exemplifying the ideals, vision, and purpose of Alpha Sigma Phi through outstanding dedication. The award was started in 2017 to honor the legacy of Brother Stan Thurston.

2018 Stan Thurston Lifetime Achievement Recipient

Name: Hon. Bob Kutz
Chapter and Initiation: California '67
Alumni Positions: Nu Alumni Association VP (1976 - 1977), Nu Alumni Association President (1978 - 1983), Grand Historian (1982 - 2016), Epsilon Psi Ritual Advisor (2012 - 2017), Grand Councilor (2014 - 2016)

Robert Kutz served as the Fraternity Grand Historian for an unmatched span of 34 years, recording the Fraternity history, authoring numerous versions of the Chapter History Sketches, and often traveling cross country at his own expense to document and preserve our history.

He has been instrumental in our Western growth, serving as the installing officer or Grand Council representative for most of our chapters established on the West Coast along with helping to establish chapter endowments for many of these chapters, most of whom had few living alumni at the time of Chartering. He is a 1981 Delta Beta Xi inductee for his sustained alumni involvement to the Fraternity and was the 1994 Evin C. Varner Distinguished Service recipient.
