My Favorite Part of Volunteering:
Interaction with my brothers. At a recent chapter meeting, they asked me to teach them the "Sweetheart Song." Though not much of a singer, it came back to me from my undergraduate days and before long they were all singing along with me that was fun.
Knowing that I learned more in four years as an undergraduate member than I could have without becoming involved while creating lifelong friendships and developing useful and applicable leadership skills.
Advice for Interested Parents and Alumni Volunteers:
It is important to understand that life for college students has changed from our day. Thus, we must be flexible in our approach to working with them. They need support and encouragement as well as the opportunity to make decisions on their own, knowing we are there to help them out if needed. Also, understand the processes and resources from the National Headquarters, and the Better Man Program of membership education teaches them to strive to become better men and leaders.
